Tony Sebastian Ukpo is a photographer based in Rennes, Brittany. He is influenced by major figures such as Henri Cartier-Bresson, Saul Leiter, Diane Arbus, Gordon Parks, and Dorothea Lange. His style, which he describes as “organic straight photography,” highlights the essence of a material and hands-on process.

A portraitist and documentarian who works primarily with film, he brings a thoughtful gaze to the individuals and characters he photographs. His narrative approach reflects a deep desire to tell stories and reveal people’s inner worlds, often framed within a social and political context through a personal lens.

His work has been featured at the National Portrait Gallery in London as part of the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize, as well as in solo and group exhibitions around the world, including in South Africa, London, and Rennes.

Son style, qu’il qualifie de photographie “organique”, met en valeur l’essence du processus matériel et artisanal.

Portraitiste et documentariste travaillant principalement en argentique, il porte un regard attentif sur les individus et les personnages qu’il photographie. Son approche narrative reflète une volonté profonde de raconter des histoires et de dévoiler le monde intérieur des gens, souvent inscrit dans un contexte social et politique à travers une perspective personnelle. Son travail a été présenté à la National Portrait Gallery de Londres dans le cadre du Taylor Wessing photographie portrait prize, ainsi que lors d’expositions individuelles et collectives à travers le monde, notamment en Afrique du Sud, à Londres et à Rennes.
